The map

About this Zlatoust map poster

Zlatoust lies in the Southern Urals in Chelyabinsk Oblast. It is one of the most strikingly situated industrial towns in Russia. It was founded in 1754 around an ironworks on the Ai River. A dam created a pond that powered the works, and the town grew along the valley and up the surrounding slopes, with forested ridges pressing close on every side.

The city became famous for its arms factory and for engraved steel. Zlatoust engraving on blades and decorative weapons is a recognized craft tradition with its own museum collections. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the town, winding through the mountains, and it is an important part of Zlatoust's history and its map.

A Zlatoust map poster shows a city shaped entirely by terrain. The pond sits near its heart, streets bend around hillsides, and the railway follows the valley's curves. Neighbourhoods appear as separate pockets divided by ridges. It is a map with a strong sense of place, where the mountains are present in every line.
