About this Ahwiaa map poster
Ahwiaa is in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, a short distance north of Kumasi along the main road. Its map follows that road closely. Houses and workshops line the highway, and smaller lanes branch off into the gently rolling land on either side.
The town is known for wood carving. Workshops and roadside stalls sell carved stools, masks, figures and drums, and it is one of the craft villages that visitors to Kumasi often stop at. In the Asante tradition, the carved stool carries deep meaning, and the craft remains central to Ahwiaa's identity.
