The map

About this Al-'Ubūr map poster

Al-'Ubūr, also known as Obour City, is one of Egypt's new towns, built in the desert northeast of Cairo along the road toward Ismailia. It was planned from scratch, and the map shows it clearly. Residential districts are arranged in orderly neighbourhoods, a separate industrial area holds large factory plots, and wide avenues divide the city into distinct zones.

From above, the regularity is striking. Blocks repeat in consistent patterns, green strips run between districts, and open desert still surrounds the edges. The ring roads and highways around Greater Cairo pass close by, so the city is tightly connected to the capital while standing apart from its dense older neighbourhoods.

An Al-'Ubūr map poster also reflects the city's economic role. It is home to one of Egypt's largest wholesale markets for fruit and vegetables, which supplies much of Greater Cairo. Its industrial zone hosts many factories, and together these give the city a working identity quite unlike a purely residential suburb.

01

Planned neighbourhoods

Residential districts follow a repeating layout of blocks, streets and small open spaces, forming a clean, modular pattern across the map.

02

Industrial zone

Large factory plots and wide service roads fill a separate part of the city, appearing as broad rectangles that contrast with the finer residential grid.

03

Desert edges

Where the planned streets end, the map opens into desert, giving the city a sharp outline and leaving clear space around the built area.
