The map

About this Arad map poster

Arad was founded in 1962 as a planned town on the eastern edge of the Negev, where the land begins to fall toward the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea. The map shows that plan clearly. Separate neighbourhoods sit around a central area, each with inward-facing streets, and there is a firm edge where the town stops and the desert begins.

The planners designed Arad for the climate. They grouped homes closely for shade and shelter from the wind, so many streets form short loops and courtyards instead of long avenues. The dry, clean air at this height has long drawn people with breathing problems. West of town lies Tel Arad, an ancient site with Canaanite and Israelite remains.

An Arad map poster works well because the town is so easy to read: a deliberate shape set against open, empty land. Roads to the east descend toward the Dead Sea shore. In black and white, the contrast between the carefully arranged neighbourhoods and the blank desert around them becomes the whole composition.

01

Clustered neighbourhoods

Residential quarters are grouped as separate units around the centre, with short, curving streets turned inward. The layout was chosen to cope with desert heat and wind.

02

Desert edge

The built area ends abruptly, with few scattered outskirts. The town reads as a clearly outlined island of streets surrounded by open plateau.

03

Road to the Dead Sea

A winding road leaves town toward the east and descends through the desert to the Dead Sea. It traces a long line across the otherwise empty land.

Why Arad

A map that means something

Arad draws people who chose it on purpose, for its quiet, its air or its desert views, and a map of the town reflects that choice. It suits former residents, immigrant families and anyone who has spent time among its courtyards and walks.

Add your own title, a subtitle in any wording and the coordinates line. The Sand style suits the desert setting, and the other four are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Blueprint. Download 300 DPI files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional frame.
