The map
Bābra is a town in Amreli district on the Saurashtra peninsula of Gujarat. From above, it shows a dense central area of narrow lanes and closely built houses. The old market streets in the middle give way to more open neighbourhoods toward the edges, and main roads lead out across the flat, dry farmland of the region.
As in many Saurashtra towns, the layout reflects slow growth around trade and farming rather than planning. Streets branch and bend, and small squares and temples mark the intersections. Beyond the last houses, the land is divided into fields of cotton and groundnut. Small reservoirs and seasonal streams draw soft lines across it.
A Bābra map poster keeps the focus on the essentials: the compact heart of the town, the roads that tie it to the rest of Saurashtra and the wide agricultural plain around it. It is a simple, faithful picture of a place well known to the people from there.
The centre is a dense pattern of narrow, winding lanes and small blocks. It grew over time around the town's market and older streets.
Main roads leave the town in several directions toward other towns of the peninsula, linking Bābra to the wider region.
Flat farmland surrounds the town. It is divided into straight-edged fields and crossed by seasonal streams and small water bodies.
