About this Balfour map poster
Balfour sits on the high, open grassland of southern Mpumalanga. From above, the older town is laid out in straight streets and rectangular blocks. Siyathemba township lies nearby, with its own tighter pattern of small plots. Around both, the land opens into wide farm fields cut by long, straight roads.
The town is the seat of the Dipaleseng Local Municipality and has long served the farming district around it. Road and rail links cross the area, connecting it to Gauteng to the north-west and to the rest of the Highveld.
