The map

About this Bāli map poster

Bāli is a town in the Pali district of Rajasthan, in the region known as Godwar, which lies between the Marwar plains and the western slopes of the Aravalli range. From above, its older centre is a tight tangle of lanes and closely set houses. Newer streets extend along the main roads and fade into dry fields and scrub.

The town is a short distance from Falna, whose railway station on the line between Ajmer and Ahmedabad serves the area. Godwar is known for its Jain heritage and its trading families. Many of those families long ago moved to cities across India but keep close ties with their home towns in the region.

A Bāli map poster shows the character of a Rajasthani market town: a dense core where the lanes are too narrow for anything but a fine line, roads leading out toward neighbouring villages, and the open land beyond. Printed in black and white, the organic street pattern reads like an intricate drawing.

01

Old town lanes

The historic centre of Bāli is a close-knit mesh of narrow lanes and small open spaces, the most detailed and intricate part of the map.

02

Routes out of town

Main roads leave Bāli toward Falna and the surrounding villages, forming the clear axes along which the town's newer streets have grown.

03

Dry open country

Bāli lies within reach of the Aravalli range to the east, and the dry, open country around the town gives its outer roads and field edges a sparse, airy look.

Why Bāli

A map that means something

Families from Godwar often live far from Bāli, in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or abroad, while keeping a strong bond with their ancestral town. A map of its lanes makes a meaningful gift for a new home, a family occasion or an elder who remembers the old streets.

Write your own title and subtitle, choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and check the free preview before buying. The $9 files come in six sizes, or you can order a printed matte poster with an optional wooden frame.
