The Nan River
The river curves past the town and is the strongest natural line on the map, so it gives the poster a graceful sweep across the frame.

The map
Bang Mun Nak is a district town in Phichit Province, in the lower north of Thailand's central plain. It lies on the Nan River, one of the main rivers feeding the Chao Phraya. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets beside the water, with shophouses along the main roads and houses spreading out along the riverbank.
The plain around the town is almost perfectly flat and covered in rice fields, laid out in small rectangular paddies that give the landscape a fine grid of its own. Roads and irrigation channels cross it in straight lines, and villages string out along them. In the rainy season the river rises, and the land is shaped by water through much of the year.
A Bang Mun Nak map poster captures the relationship between river, town and paddy land in clean, simple lines. The Nan's curve gives the composition movement, and the compact street grid gives it a clear centre. It is a quiet, personal image for people from Phichit and for anyone who has known life along the rivers of central Thailand.
The river curves past the town and is the strongest natural line on the map, so it gives the poster a graceful sweep across the frame.
Streets in the centre form a small, tight grid close to the water. It prints as a crisp block of detail beside the flowing river.
Flat farmland surrounds the town, crossed by straight roads and channels. On the poster it becomes calm open space with a few precise lines.
