The map
Barcelona is the capital of Anzoátegui state in eastern Venezuela. It was founded in the seventeenth century by settlers who named it after the Catalan city. Its historic centre stands on the Neverí River a short distance inland. The old town was built around a colonial square, with a small grid of streets spreading from it.
Over the years the city has grown toward the coast and merged with its neighbours, Lechería and Puerto La Cruz, into one continuous urban area. On a map the three form a long band along the Caribbean shore. The river winds to the sea, main avenues link the districts, and hills rise inland to the south.
Lechería stands out for its marina district, where residential streets end on artificial canals and small harbours. A Barcelona map poster usually centres on the old town and the river. A wider view shows how the whole coastal conurbation fits together, from colonial blocks to waterfront canals and the bays beyond.

The colonial core keeps a regular pattern of short blocks around a central square, a small, tidy grid inside the larger spread of the metropolitan area.
Barcelona, Lechería and Puerto La Cruz run together along the shore. Marina canals, beaches and port areas give the coast a detailed, uneven edge.
