The map

About this Bélabo map poster

Bélabo is a town in Cameroon's East Region, on the Transcameroon railway that links Yaoundé with Ngaoundéré in the north. From above, the town grows along the railway line and the station area. Residential streets branch out on either side, and forest and farmland surround it, with the Sanaga River basin nearby.

The railway has shaped the town since the line reached it in the 1970s. Bélabo became a transfer point for timber and goods from the eastern forests, and stations, yards and depots mark its layout. The Lom Pangar dam, built upstream in the region, has added a large reservoir to the wider landscape.

A Bélabo map poster has a clear logic. The railway's strong line runs through the centre, the station yard forms a broad shape, and the streets are more irregular around it. At the edges, forest and river country open out. It is a meaningful image for railway families and others who have lived and worked in the East.

01

Transcameroon railway

The line from Yaoundé to Ngaoundéré passes through the town. It forms the main axis of the map, with the station and rail yard at its centre.

02

Station district

Around the station, sidings, depots and loading areas create a wider, more open section. It reflects Bélabo's role as a transfer point for goods.

03

Forest and river edge

Surrounding forest and farmland give the town a soft, open frame. The river country to the south and east adds winding lines at the edges of wider views.
