The map

About this Burunday map poster

Burunday is a town in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan, just north-west of the city of Almaty. It lies on the sloping plain that spreads out from the foot of the Trans-Ili Alatau, the range that forms the southern backdrop to the whole Almaty area, and its map shows a fairly regular pattern of streets on gently falling ground.

The town has developed alongside the growth of Almaty, and today its edges come close to the suburbs and roads of the larger city. From above, blocks of private houses with gardens form a fine, even texture, broken up by main roads, open plots and the lines of small rivers and channels that run down from the mountains.

A Burunday map poster captures a place between city and countryside: close enough to Almaty to share its road network, far enough to keep a quieter, low-rise character. The streets, water channels and open land form a calm, orderly composition with a clear sense of slope and direction.

01

Grid of house plots

Long streets of private homes with garden plots form a regular, fine-grained pattern that fills much of the map.

02

Mountain streams

Small rivers and channels run down from the Alatau across the plain, drawn as thin lines that follow the fall of the land.

03

Link to Almaty

Main roads connect the town with the city to the south-east, and on the map the two built-up areas come close to meeting.
