The map

About this Cerignola map poster

Cerignola lies on the Tavoliere delle Puglie, the great flat plain of northern Apulia, not far from the Ofanto river. From above, the town has a small, dense historic quarter, known locally as the Terra Vecchia. Around it are larger regular blocks, and beyond them a flat landscape of olive groves, vineyards and fields crossed by straight country roads.

The town gave its name to the Battle of Cerignola in 1503, in which Spanish forces defeated a French army. It is often cited as one of the first battles decided largely by firearms. Today Cerignola is better known for the Bella di Cerignola, a large green table olive grown across the surrounding countryside.

A Cerignola map poster shows a clear progression from old to new. The historic core is a tight knot of irregular streets. Around it spreads a more orderly grid, and then the plain takes over with long lines of roads and field boundaries. The composition is balanced and legible, a good portrait of an Apulian agricultural town.

01

Terra Vecchia

The old quarter is a compact cluster of narrow, winding streets at the heart of the town. On the poster it forms a dense, detailed knot surrounded by more regular blocks.

02

Planned expansion

Beyond the old core, later districts follow broader, more regular streets and avenues. This gives the middle ring of the map an ordered, grid-like texture.

03

Tavoliere plain

Around the town, the flat plain is divided by long straight roads and field boundaries among olive groves and vineyards. It gives the poster a quiet, spacious edge.
