The map

About this Dalfsen map poster

Dalfsen lies in the Overijssel countryside a short distance east of Zwolle. Here the river Vecht swings through flat, green land on its way west. The centre sits right beside the river, and from above it forms a tidy knot of streets surrounded by newer residential neighbourhoods and the regular geometry of Dutch farmland.

The municipality is known for its many castles and manor estates, the historic havezaten of Overijssel. Kasteel Rechteren, which stands beside the Vecht close to the town, is among the oldest of them. On the map these estates show up as rectangles of woodland, avenues and moats set into open fields, small pockets of formality in a rural scene.

A Dalfsen map poster captures the contrast between the river's loose curves and the straight lines of drainage ditches, cycle paths and country roads. The Vecht acts as the spine of the composition. The print shows how closely the town and its landscape depend on that single slow waterway, which runs from one edge of the frame to the other.

01

Vecht meanders

The river passes the town in broad, unhurried bends. This flowing line contrasts sharply with the straight ditches and parcels of the surrounding farmland.

02

Castle estates

Manor houses such as Kasteel Rechteren appear as compact blocks of woodland, lanes and water. They mark the historic havezaten scattered across the countryside around town.

03

Field patterns

Long, narrow parcels and drainage lines fill the area outside the centre. In black and white this very Dutch geometry becomes a fine texture of parallel strokes.

Why Dalfsen

A map that means something

Dalfsen is the kind of place people cycle through once and remember, and where families often stay for generations. A map of the river and the town makes a quiet gift for someone who grew up there or has just moved in.

Personalise the title, add a subtitle such as a street or a wedding date, and set the coordinates line. Then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper suits the soft, pastoral character of the Vecht valley especially well.
