The map
Dassa-Zoumè lies in the Collines department of central Benin, a region named for its hills. The town is surrounded by rounded granite outcrops rising straight out of the savanna, and it is often called the town of forty-one hills. On a map those domes appear as small, tight rings of contour lines, and the streets thread between them rather than following a regular grid.
The main highway linking Cotonou with the north of the country passes through Dassa-Zoumè, giving the town a clear central spine. Just outside stands the grotto of Notre-Dame d’Arigbo, one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in Benin, which draws large crowds each August. The town is also a historic seat of the Idaasha kingdom.
A Dassa-Zoumè map poster has an unusual texture: rocky hills scattered across the frame, a road running firmly through the middle and neighbourhoods fitted into the spaces between. It is a map shaped by the landscape itself, and a meaningful one for pilgrims and for families from the Collines.

The Marian shrine of Notre-Dame d’Arigbo lies on the edge of town among the hills, its grounds and approach roads forming a quiet focal point on the map.
The main road from the coast to northern Benin passes straight through town, forming the dominant line around which streets and markets are arranged.

Why Dassa-Zoumè
For many in Benin, Dassa-Zoumè is linked to pilgrimage and to journeys north, and for its own people it is home among the hills. A map of the town keeps that landscape present, simple and recognisable.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with the date of a pilgrimage, and the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital files are $9, and printed posters on matte paper come with an optional wooden frame.
