The map

About this Douglas map poster

Douglas is a suburb on the southern side of Cork city in Ireland, built around a former village of the same name. It lies beside the Douglas estuary, an inlet that opens into Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour. On the map, the water forms a clear edge to the north-east, with the built-up area spreading south and west up the rising ground.

The N40 South Ring Road crosses the area and divides it into distinct parts, with the older village core on one side and newer estates on the other. Housing developments, shopping centres and sports grounds fill much of the suburb, while the estuary shore offers open space and walking routes.

A Douglas map poster brings together the estuary, the ring road and the village core. It shows how an old village became a large suburb, while keeping its own identity. The shoreline adds a soft curve to an otherwise detailed residential pattern.

01

Douglas estuary

The estuary opens toward Lough Mahon along the northeastern edge, a smooth stretch of water that frames the suburb and connects it visually to Cork Harbour.

02

South Ring Road

The N40 runs through the area in a broad curve, a strong line that separates neighbourhoods and ties Douglas into the wider Cork road network.

03

Village core

The old village centre remains visible as a knot of older streets, from which newer estates and roads extend over the surrounding hillsides.
