Miyazu Map Poster & Print

Miyazu is on the northern coast of Kyoto Prefecture, on the shores of Miyazu Bay. The town lies on a narrow strip of flat land between wooded hills and the water, so its streets run in long bands parallel to the shore. From above the bay dominates the map, and the town traces its southern and western edges.

The map's defining feature is Amanohashidate, a thin sandbar several kilometres long and lined with pine trees. It stretches almost all the way across the bay and encloses the Asoumi lagoon behind it. It is traditionally counted among the Three Views of Japan, and visitors look at it from hilltop parks at either end, sometimes famously bending over to see it upside down.

A Miyazu map poster is unusual because its most important line is not a street at all. The sandbar reads as a single pale stroke across dark water, with the town, the lagoon and the hills arranged around it. It is one of the rare maps where the natural shape of a place does most of the design work.

01

Amanohashidate sandbar

This long, narrow spit of sand and pine crosses Miyazu Bay and almost closes it off. On a poster it forms one clean diagonal that is recognisable at once.

02

Asoumi lagoon

The calm water behind the sandbar is a separate enclosed shape. Framed by the spit and the shore, it gives the map a second body of water with a different, gentler outline.

03

Shoreline town

Miyazu's streets are pressed between the hills and the bay, running in long strips along the coast. That makes the built-up area linear rather than round.

Por qué Miyazu

Un mapa con significado

Many people visit Miyazu once and remember the view of Amanohashidate for years. A map poster keeps that trip on the wall. For anyone with roots in northern Kyoto Prefecture it is also a quiet reminder of home.

Add the date of your visit or a line of your own to the title and subtitle, and keep the coordinates as a subtle detail. Blueprint and Noir suit the water especially well. Printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
