The map

About this Fuorigrotta map poster

Fuorigrotta means "outside the grotto". The name refers to the ancient tunnel through the Posillipo hill that once connected this plain to the centre of Naples. The district was largely rebuilt in the twentieth century, so its map is very different from the winding historic core: wide avenues, long rectangular blocks, and a regular layout pressed against the slope of the hill.

Two large open spaces stand out on the map. One is the oval of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, home of SSC Napoli. The other is the Mostra d'Oltremare, an exhibition complex from the 1930s and 1940s with gardens, pavilions and straight axes. The University of Naples Federico II also has a large engineering campus here. Further west, the streets run toward Bagnoli and the volcanic ground of the Campi Flegrei.

A Fuorigrotta map poster shows the orderly western side of a city usually known for its tangled streets. The tunnels and the Posillipo ridge close off one edge. The stadium and the exhibition park anchor the middle. In Noir, the straight avenues read as bright lines crossing a dark, dense city.

01

Stadium oval

The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona appears as a large, clean ellipse among rectangular blocks. It is one of the most recognisable shapes on any map of Naples.

02

Mostra d'Oltremare

This exhibition grounds is laid out on formal axes with pavilions and gardens. It forms a distinct geometric block in the middle of the district.

03

Posillipo edge

To the east, the Posillipo hill ends the street grid. Road and rail pass through it in tunnels, which is the origin of the district's name.

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a match date or graduation year, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9 and include six sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF.
