The map
Grao de Murviedro, better known as Puerto de Sagunto or Port de Sagunt, is the coastal half of the municipality of Sagunto, north of Valencia. It grew in the early twentieth century around a steelworks and a port built to ship iron ore, and its map is still shaped by that industrial beginning: straight streets, worker housing blocks and a large industrial area by the sea.
The historic town of Sagunto, with its Roman theatre and hilltop castle, lies a few kilometres inland, and the two settlements are connected by roads crossing flat, cultivated land. The port district is compact and regular, with a sandy beach and seafront promenade on one side and the commercial harbour on the other, giving the coast a sharp, engineered outline.
A Grao de Murviedro map poster captures a town built for work and later reshaped for living. The preserved blast furnace remains one of its landmarks, a monument to the steel era, and the surrounding grid shows how the town was planned. It is a meaningful print for families linked to the steelworks and the port.
The commercial port forms a hard, geometric edge along the sea, with breakwaters and docks that contrast with the soft line of the beach.
The town's early streets were laid out to house steelworkers, creating a regular, orderly street plan that still defines the central districts.
A preserved blast furnace stands as a monument to the steel industry, marking the site of the former works on the map.
