The map

About this Holladay map poster

Holladay lies on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley, between the city of Salt Lake and the foot of the Wasatch Range. The valley is famous for its broad numbered grid, and parts of Holladay follow it. Yet on the map the pattern loosens here: streets curve, cul-de-sacs branch off, and large mature lots give the city a leafier, more irregular texture than much of the valley.

Holladay is one of the oldest settlements in the valley. It began in 1847 as a pioneer settlement along Big Cottonwood Creek, founded by a group led by John Holladay, whose name the city still carries. The creek still crosses the area, and its green corridor is part of what gives the map its looser shape.

A Holladay map poster sets a partial grid against winding residential streets, with arterial roads running straight towards the mountains on the eastern edge. It captures a place where the regular order of the valley meets older lanes and the first rise of the bench.

01

Salt Lake grid

The valley's numbered street system extends into the city, giving the poster a framework of long straight lines running north-south and east-west.

02

Big Cottonwood Creek

The creek that drew the first settlers crosses the area, bringing a winding green line through the otherwise ordered street pattern.

03

Toward the Wasatch

On the east side, the grid gives way to curving streets as the land rises towards the foothills of the Wasatch Range.

Why Holladay

A map that means something

Holladay is a place of long-settled families and quiet neighbourhoods close to the mountains. A map of it works as a gift for a new home, a wedding or anyone who grew up along the east bench.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a street name or a year, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Classic black & white shows the grid most clearly.
