About this Ica map poster
Ica lies in the coastal desert of southern Peru, in a green valley watered by the Ica River as it runs down from the Andes. On a map the city forms a fairly regular grid of blocks centred on its main plaza, with the river channel passing along its eastern side and irrigated fields pressing close against the outer neighbourhoods.
The valley is the heart of Peru's pisco and wine production, and vineyards and bodegas surround the city. Just south-west of the centre, sand dunes rise sharply around Huacachina, a small lagoon ringed by palms that has become one of the country's best-known desert landscapes. Further south lie the Nazca Lines, often visited on trips that start from here.
