About this Ishioka map poster
Ishioka lies in central Ibaraki Prefecture, between Lake Kasumigaura to the south-east and the Tsukuba mountains to the west. From above, the city has a clear centre around its station and older streets. Farmland, orchards and smaller settlements spread outward toward the lake shore and the wooded hills.
In ancient times, Ishioka was the seat of the provincial government of Hitachi, and the site of the old provincial office remains part of the town's identity.
