The map

About this Kadoma map poster

Kadoma lies in Mashonaland West, roughly halfway between Harare and Bulawayo on the country's high central plateau. On a map, it is shaped by transport. The main highway and the railway run through it side by side, and the town's streets branch off in both directions. Residential suburbs spread out on either side, and beyond them the land opens into farmland and old mining ground.

Known as Gatooma until 1982, the town grew on gold mining in the surrounding area and later on cotton, which supported a textile industry that became part of its identity. A Kadoma map poster captures this working-town character: a clear central spine, a commercial core close to the railway, and neighbourhoods laid out in the planned patterns common to Zimbabwe's towns.

In black and white, the main road and railway read as the backbone of the composition, with smaller streets forming ribs and loops on either side. The suburbs add finer texture toward the edges of the frame. It is a modest, legible plan, and a meaningful one for anyone who grew up here or has passed through on the long road between the two largest cities.

01

Road and rail spine

The Harare–Bulawayo highway and railway run through the town close together. Their long parallel lines give the map a strong central axis.

02

Central business area

Near the railway, a small grid of blocks forms the commercial heart of the town. It is the densest part of the plan and the point where the main roads meet.

03

Planned suburbs

On either side of the spine, residential areas spread out in curving roads and regular plots. Their finer pattern softens the edges of the composition.

Why Kadoma

A map that means something

Kadoma is a place many Zimbabweans know as a home town or a halfway stop, and a map poster keeps it close for people now living in Harare, Johannesburg or London. The simple lines make it easy to hang in any room.

You can personalise it with your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, such as the old name Gatooma or a meaningful year. The poster comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Choose $9 HD digital files or a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
