The map

About this Kadugli map poster

Kadugli is the capital of South Kordofan state in southern Sudan, and on a map it is defined by terrain more than by planning. The town occupies low ground among the Nuba Mountains, so its built area stays tight while the surrounding hills show up as broad blank shapes that frame the streets on several sides.

The street pattern is loose and practical: a few main roads carry traffic in and out of the valley, and smaller lanes spread from them into residential blocks. Seasonal streams leave faint lines across the landscape. In minimalist black and white these marks read as a quiet sketch of a town that follows its ground rather than a grid.

A Kadugli map poster keeps that relationship between settlement and landscape in view. The dense cluster of lines at the centre thins out quickly toward the edges, where the hills take over. It suits anyone who knows the region, from family roots in the Nuba Mountains to years spent working or studying in South Kordofan.

01

Nuba Mountains setting

The town sits among the hills of the Nuba Mountains, and the empty space of the slopes around it gives the drawn street network a clear, enclosed outline.

02

Roads into the valley

A handful of main roads lead into the centre from outside the valley, forming the strongest lines on the map and linking the town to the rest of Kordofan.

03

Seasonal watercourses

Streams that fill during the rainy season cross the lower ground, adding thin, irregular lines that break up the residential blocks around the centre.
