The map

About this Kamyanske map poster

Kamyanske stretches along the right bank of the Dnipro, and from above the river is the defining feature of the map. Upstream of the city, the wide Kamianske Reservoir opens into a broad sheet of water, held back by a dam and hydroelectric station. Downstream, the river narrows again, with islands and channels near the shore.

The city itself forms a long band parallel to the Dnipro. Large industrial complexes, including a major metallurgical plant, occupy the land nearest the water, while residential districts rise behind them in a mix of older grids and later microdistricts. A bridge and the dam link the city to the left bank.

Known as Dniprodzerzhynsk for much of the Soviet period, the city was renamed Kamyanske in 2016. It is also known as the birthplace of Leonid Brezhnev. A Kamyanske map poster shows a city formed by heavy industry and the Dnipro, with water on a scale few cities can match.

The reservoir

The Kamianske Reservoir spreads out upstream of the city as a vast body of water, filling a large part of the map with a calm open surface.

02

Dam and power station

A dam with a hydroelectric station crosses the Dnipro, drawing a firm straight line between the reservoir and the narrower river below.

03

Riverside industry

Large industrial sites line the riverbank, forming broad, angular shapes between the water and the residential districts that climb behind them.
