The map

About this Kanie map poster

Kanie sits on the low, level ground of the Nōbi Plain in western Aichi, a short train ride from Nagoya. The landscape here was formed by rivers, and it shows on the map: several waterways run through the town, with embankments, small bridges and narrow drainage channels crossing the land between them. There are almost no contours to speak of, only water and the lines people drew around it.

The name Kanie is written with the character for crab, a nod to the wet, low-lying ground on which it grew. In 1584 Kanie Castle was besieged during the campaigns that followed the death of Oda Nobunaga, and a small memorial marks its former site. Today the town is largely residential, linked by rail to Nagoya and to towns further west across the delta.

A Kanie map poster captures that quiet, intricate texture: dense clusters of houses along the older roads, open rectangles of fields, and the fine, winding lines of rivers and canals threading between them. It is not a dramatic skyline city but a finely detailed plain, and in monochrome it takes on something of the look of an engraving or a page of careful handwritten notes.

01

Parallel rivers

Several rivers and their embankments run through the town in long, gently curving lines, dividing the plain into strips and giving the map its main rhythm.

02

Field patterns

Between the built-up areas, rectangular rice fields and irrigation channels form a fine grid that contrasts with the irregular streets of the older neighbourhoods.

03

Rail corridors

Rail lines cross the town on their way between Nagoya and the west, drawing straight, confident strokes across the low delta landscape.

Why Kanie

A map that means something

Kanie is the kind of place people know from daily life rather than from guidebooks: the station, the riverside path, the walk home past the fields. A map preserves that everyday geography, and it suits residents, commuters to Nagoya and anyone who once lived here.

Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or the year you moved in, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available, from Classic black & white to Blueprint and Sand. A free watermarked preview lets you check the layout before you buy.
