About this Kiel map poster
Kiel wraps around the Kieler Förde, a narrow inlet of the Baltic that runs south into the heart of the city. On the map the water is the centre of everything: the old town and main shopping streets sit at its southern end, residential districts climb the western shore, and shipyards, docks and ferry terminals line the eastern side.
At Holtenau, the Kiel Canal leaves the fjord and cuts across Schleswig-Holstein to the Elbe estuary.
