The map

About this Kon Tum map poster

Kon Tum lies in Vietnam's Central Highlands, on the northern bank of the Đắk Bla River, which curves around the southern side of the town. The centre is a regular grid of streets on a gentle plateau, and beyond it the map opens into rice fields, plantations and forested hills that rise toward the Lao and Cambodian borders.

The town is known for its wooden cathedral, built by French missionaries in the early twentieth century from local timber, which still stands near the centre. Around the edges of town, Bahnar villages keep their tall communal rông houses, whose steep roofs are among the most recognisable buildings in the highlands.

The Đắk Bla is crossed by several bridges, including the long Kon Klor suspension bridge on the eastern side of town. Kon Tum was the capital of its own province until 2025, when it became part of Quảng Ngãi. A Kon Tum map poster shows the river bend, the grid and the green country around it in fine black lines.

01

The river bend

The Đắk Bla sweeps around the southern edge of town in a broad curve, creating the poster's most distinctive shape and a clear edge between the urban area and the fields beyond.

02

Central grid

The centre is laid out in a simple grid of streets on level ground, a calm and legible pattern that sits comfortably inside the curve of the river.

03

Villages and rông houses

On the outskirts, Bahnar villages appear as small clusters of lanes around their communal houses, set among fields and gardens close to the river.

Why Kon Tum

A map that means something

Kon Tum stays with the people who grew up there and with travellers who came for the highlands, the wooden church and the villages. A map of the river bend and the town grid is a calm way to hold on to that landscape.
