About this Longtan map poster
Longtan lies in Youyang County in the southeastern corner of Chongqing, close to the borders of Hunan and Guizhou. This is steep karst country, and the map shows it immediately. The town occupies a valley floor between ridges, with streets drawn out along the water and roads climbing in switchbacks to get out of the valley.
Longtan is known for its old town, a historic trading settlement with traditional wooden architecture that has drawn visitors to this part of Youyang. Newer development spreads along the valley beyond the old streets, but the shape of the land keeps everything long and narrow rather than spreading in all directions.
