The map
Maksenyit is in Ethiopia's Amhara region, on the high ground north of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. The town grew along the main road that links the Lake Tana area with Gondar, and the highway is still its spine. Most streets and buildings are arranged along it and in a loose grid on either side.
Around the town the land is mostly farmed. The map there is marked by footpaths, field tracks and small streams, with scattered homesteads. The combination of one strong road and a light web of paths is typical of highland Ethiopian market towns.
A Maksenyit map poster gives this simple, clear structure a quiet elegance. The highway cuts across the frame as a dominant line, the town clusters around it, and the lightly marked countryside lets the composition breathe.

Behind the main road, side streets form a simple, somewhat irregular grid that fades out as the town gives way to fields.
Maksenyit sits in the farmland north of Lake Tana. A wide frame shows the rural paths and streams that drain toward the lake basin.
