The map

About this Marín map poster

Marín lies on the southern shore of the Ría de Pontevedra, a long Atlantic inlet in western Galicia. The town is a narrow band between water and slope: port facilities and shoreline streets along the ría, then lanes climbing into hillside neighbourhoods and forest. Beaches alternate with quays along the coast, so the edge of the map is constantly changing.

Marín is home to the Spanish Naval Military School, where officers of the Spanish Navy are trained, and its grounds occupy a substantial stretch of the waterfront. The town also has an active fishing and commercial port, the main one on the ría, which shapes the outline of the shore with piers and breakwaters.

A Marín map poster brings together the geometry of the port and the naval school with the softer lines of beaches and hills. The ría fills part of the frame with open water, giving the composition balance, while the steep terrain inland gives the street network a winding, layered quality typical of the Galician coast.

Naval school grounds

The campus of the Escuela Naval Militar stretches along the shore, a large ordered block of buildings and open space set against the irregular town.

02

Port and piers

Quays and breakwaters extend into the ría in straight lines and sharp angles, the most geometric element of the entire coastline.

03

Hillside lanes

Behind the waterfront, streets climb in curves through residential areas, thinning out as the slopes turn to forest.

Why Marín

A map that means something

Marín is remembered by naval officers who studied there, by families from the fishing community and by summer visitors on its beaches. A map of the town holds all of those connections in one clear image.

Add a graduation year, a family name or simply the coordinates in the title and subtitle, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir gives the ría a deep, dark surface against which the port lines stand out.
