About this Mason City map poster
Mason City sits on the rolling prairie of north Iowa, and its map shows a classic Midwestern street grid, divided by the Winnebago River and by Willow Creek, which winds through the city before joining it. The water brings curves and green corridors into an otherwise rectangular plan.
Downtown is arranged around Central Park, a square green space surrounded by commercial blocks. On its edge stands the Historic Park Inn Hotel, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and the last of his hotels still standing. The city also has a notable collection of Prairie School houses, several of them near the creek.
