The map

About this Meddappakkam map poster

Meddappakkam, usually written Medavakkam, lies in the southern suburbs of Chennai, between Velachery and Tambaram. It was once a village on the edge of the city and is now a dense residential area. The map shows a close mesh of short streets and apartment blocks, organised around a few busy main roads and junctions.

Its growth followed the expansion of Chennai's IT corridor to the east and the spread of new housing across the southern suburbs. The Pallikaranai marsh lies nearby. It is one of the last large natural wetlands in the city, an important habitat for birds and a key part of the area's drainage.

A Meddappakkam map poster captures the texture of a modern Indian suburb: housing layouts, narrow internal streets and main roads carrying traffic toward the city. Where the built-up area meets the marsh, dense detail gives way to open space. That clear edge anchors the composition.

01

Main road junction

Several arterial roads meet near the centre, carrying traffic toward Velachery, Tambaram and the IT corridor. They form the strongest lines on the map.

02

Pallikaranai marsh edge

The wetland to the northeast appears as a wide area with few streets. It contrasts sharply with the dense housing nearby.

03

Residential layouts

Planned plots and apartment colonies appear as small grids of narrow streets, each set at a slightly different angle. Together they fit like the pieces of a mosaic.
