Valley basin
Mangshi sits on a broad flat basin, so the street network spreads evenly without the steep constraints of many mountain towns, before stopping at the foot of the hills.

The map
Menghuan is the historic name of the town at the heart of Mangshi, the capital of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in western Yunnan. On the map it occupies a wide, level valley floor, with a grid of modern avenues laid across flat land and older, more irregular lanes near the centre. Hills rise on the edges of the basin, framing the town.
Dehong has a strong Dai cultural presence, and Theravada Buddhist temples and pagodas appear throughout the area. The large golden pagoda on a hill above the town is one of its best-known sights. Mangshi also has an airport serving the prefecture, and the region's position close to Myanmar has long made it a place of trade and crossing.
A Menghuan map poster shows a town that feels open and spacious from above, its streets fanning out across the valley floor. In black and white, the regular blocks of the newer districts sit neatly against the soft outlines of the surrounding slopes. The result is an unhurried composition with plenty of space around the town.
Mangshi sits on a broad flat basin, so the street network spreads evenly without the steep constraints of many mountain towns, before stopping at the foot of the hills.
A large golden pagoda crowns a hill beside the town, one of the best-known landmarks in Dehong, and its hill forms a quiet open patch on the map.
Wide, straight roads laid out in recent decades divide the outer districts into large regular blocks, a clear contrast with the tighter streets of the older centre.

Why Menghuan
Travellers who have visited the Dai and Jingpo regions of Yunnan, and families from Dehong, often want something that holds the memory of the place without being a photograph. A map offers that in a simple, architectural way.
You can title the poster Menghuan, Mangshi or anything else meaningful to you, add a subtitle and date, and set the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download for $9 or order a matte print, framed if you like.
