About this Monthey map poster
Monthey lies on the western side of the Rhône valley in the canton of Valais. It sits where the Vièze river comes out of the Val d'Illiez. On a map, the town fills a fan of level ground at the foot of the mountains, with the broad, flat Rhône plain opening to the east.
A large chemical industrial site lies beside the town. Its big buildings and internal roads form a distinct block next to the residential streets. The historic centre, near the river, has a closer, older street pattern, and newer districts spread across the plain.
