Leningradskaya Map Poster & Print
Leningradskaya is a large rural settlement in the north of Krasnodar Krai, on the flat, fertile plain that stretches toward the Sea of Azov. Like many Kuban stanitsas, it spreads wide rather than high, and on a map it forms an extensive grid of long, straight streets lined with houses and deep garden plots.
A small steppe river runs through the settlement, and its bends and ponds interrupt the grid, creating the only soft curves in an otherwise rectilinear plan. Around the edges, the streets give way abruptly to large fields separated by lines of windbreak trees, which appear on the map as a second, larger grid.
The stanitsa was founded as a Cossack settlement and later renamed in the Soviet period, taking the name it holds today. A Leningradskaya map poster shows the scale and order of a southern Russian agricultural town, where the pattern of the land is as legible as the pattern of the streets.
