Lüdinghausen is in the Münsterland, the flat, green region of North Rhine-Westphalia known for its moated houses. The town calls itself the Dreiburgenstadt, the town of three castles: Burg Lüdinghausen, Burg Vischering and the remains of Burg Wolfsberg.
