Margahayukencana lies on the southwestern side of Bandung in West Java, within Bandung Regency. The name is closely tied to a large planned housing area, and on a map that origin is easy to read. Rows of short, parallel residential streets form regular blocks, set against the more irregular lanes of the older kampung neighbourhoods around them.
The wider setting is the Bandung basin, a broad upland plain ringed by volcanic mountains. Around the district, housing meets the remaining fields and small watercourses that drain toward the Citarum river system. Main roads link it to the city centre and neighbouring suburbs.
