Ponteareas lies in the province of Pontevedra in southern Galicia, in the Condado area near the Portuguese border and inland from Vigo. The town grew beside the river Tea, and the map shows the water running along its edge with the centre rising above it. Ponteareas is best known for its Corpus Christi celebrations, when residents cover the streets with intricate carpets made of flowers, a tradition recognised as a festival of international tourist interest.
