Wetter Map Poster & Print
Wetter lies on the Ruhr between Hagen and Witten, where the river widens into the Harkortsee, a reservoir lake created in the early 1930s. On the map, the water forms a long, smooth shape across the middle of the frame, and the town spreads along its northern shore and up the wooded slopes to either side.
The town has a place in German industrial history. In 1819 Friedrich Harkort set up a mechanical workshop in the old castle of Wetter, one of the early engineering works of the Ruhr, and the lake and a hilltop tower now carry his name. Railway lines follow the valley and cross the Ruhr on a viaduct, a strong straight line against the curving water.
A Wetter map poster brings together lake, rail and hill in a compact frame. The districts on the surrounding heights, including Wengern and Volmarstein, give the edges of the map a scattered, organic pattern, in contrast with the smooth shape of the Harkortsee at its centre.
