About this Muttenz map poster
Muttenz lies just southeast of Basel, in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Its map has several distinct layers. The Rhine forms the northern boundary, lined by harbour basins and industrial land. A broad band of railway tracks cuts through the middle, where the large marshalling yard spreads out. To the south, the land rises to the wooded Wartenberg.
At the centre of the old village stands the church of St. Arbogast, one of the few fortified churches in Switzerland still enclosed by a complete ring wall. On a map, that small walled precinct is a clear focal point, with the older lanes around it and newer residential streets spreading outward. The hill above carries the ruins of three medieval castles.
