The map

About this Myyrmäki map poster

Myyrmäki is a district in western Vantaa, part of the Helsinki metropolitan area. It was built mainly in the 1970s, and the map shows a typical Finnish suburb of that era: apartment blocks set loosely among trees, curving streets that avoid through traffic, and a network of paths through the woods. The railway runs through the district with a station at its heart.

The district is known for Myyrmäki Church, designed by Juha Leiviskä and completed in 1984, admired for its handling of natural light and set in a small park beside the railway. The Myyrmanni shopping centre next to the station forms the district's commercial centre, and the Vantaa river valley lies to the east.

A Myyrmäki map poster captures a suburb planned around nature. Without labels, the open spaces between buildings, the green corridors and the steady line of the railway form a balanced, airy composition. It shows how deliberately modern Finnish housing districts were fitted into the forest.

01

Railway and station

The rail line runs through Myyrmäki with a station at its centre, and the district's main buildings and services gather around this point.

02

Church park

Juha Leiviskä's Myyrmäki Church stands in a narrow park beside the railway, a small green space that makes a quiet landmark on the map.

03

Forest corridors

Green corridors and footpaths wind between the housing areas, separating the blocks and giving the map its open, uneven texture.
