The map

About this Nakhon Nayok map poster

Nakhon Nayok sits on the central plain northeast of Bangkok, where the land starts to lift towards the Sankamphaeng and Dong Phaya Yen ranges. From above, the town is a compact knot of streets on the Nakhon Nayok River. Past it, a patchwork of rectangular paddy fields, irrigation channels and straight farm roads stretches south and west towards the Bangkok basin.

The river shapes the town more than any planned grid. Its bends push the streets into short, uneven blocks, and the main roads leave town like spokes towards Prachinburi, Saraburi and the capital. North of the town the neat field geometry breaks up into contour-following lanes and reservoirs, and the green mass of Khao Yai National Park fills the upper edge of the frame.

A Nakhon Nayok map poster shows that edge between flat and steep with unusual clarity. The province is also home to the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, and its waterfalls and dam reservoir draw weekend visitors from Bangkok. On paper, though, the drawing is carried by water: one winding river, many straight canals, and the hills that feed them both.

01

The Nakhon Nayok River

The river loops through town and gives the centre its irregular outline. Streets bend and stop along its banks instead of running in a clean grid.

02

Paddy field geometry

South and west of town, rice fields and irrigation ditches form a fine rectilinear mesh. In black and white it reads almost like graph paper.

03

Foothills of Khao Yai

To the north the road pattern thins into lanes that follow contours and reservoirs, where the plain meets the forested ranges of the national park.
