Nasīrābād lies in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, on open, semi-arid country east of Ajmer. The town was established in 1818 as a military cantonment by the British East India Company under Sir David Ochterlony, and the map still shows the logic of that origin: broad, straight roads, generous plots and a clear separation between the cantonment and the civil town.
That contrast is the most interesting thing to see from above. The cantonment side is spacious and rectilinear, with parade grounds and long avenues, while the town area is denser and more organic, with narrow lanes that grew around markets and homes. Today the cantonment remains an active army station.
