The map

About this Nhamatanda map poster

Nhamatanda lies in Sofala province in central Mozambique, inland from Beira along the Beira corridor. This transport route carries road and rail traffic between the port and Zimbabwe. On a map, the town grows along that corridor. Its streets branch off the main road and the railway, which run almost in parallel across the flat lowland.

The surrounding land is low and well watered, part of the wide plain drained by rivers flowing to the Indian Ocean. That landscape left the district badly exposed during Cyclone Idai in 2019, when floods hit large areas of Sofala. Today the map shows a town rebuilt and still growing, with farm plots and village paths spreading outward.

A Nhamatanda map poster centres on the corridor. Two strong lines, road and rail, cross the sheet, with the town gathered around them in a mesh of streets. Farther out, a looser network of tracks leads into farmland. The composition is direct and readable, a portrait of a place defined by the route that runs through it.

01

Beira corridor

The main road and the railway to Zimbabwe cross the town side by side, forming the dominant parallel lines on the map and the spine of the settlement.

02

Corridor-side streets

The town's streets branch from the corridor into a moderately dense grid, with markets and public buildings concentrated close to the main road.

03

Low-lying farmland

Around the town, the flat plain is covered by an irregular network of paths and plots, with watercourses adding soft lines across open ground.

The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be edited to add a name, a dedication or a date. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
