Bermejo lies at the far southern tip of Bolivia, in the Tarija Department, on the bank of the river that gives it its name. The Bermejo River marks the border with Argentina here, and the Argentine town of Aguas Blancas sits directly opposite, so the map of Bermejo is really a map of two countries divided by a single stretch of water.
At a much lower altitude than most of Bolivia, the area is warm and subtropical, and sugar cane is its defining crop.
