Hastināpur is in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, on the plain near the Ganges. Its name carries great weight in Indian tradition: in the Mahabharata it is the capital of the Kuru kingdom, the seat of the Kauravas and Pandavas. Archaeological excavations here have uncovered settlement layers going back a very long time, which gives the modern town a deep sense of place.
Today Hastināpur is also an important Jain pilgrimage centre, with several large temple complexes associated with Jain tirthankaras. On the map these appear as distinct walled compounds among the ordinary streets. To the east, the land descends toward the Ganges floodplain, where the Hastināpur Wildlife Sanctuary covers wetlands, grasslands and shifting river channels.
A Hastināpur map poster shows this layered landscape in simple lines: the town's streets, the temple precincts, the roads across farmland and the loose, braided forms of the river country. It is a map of a small place with a very large story, drawn with calm restraint.
Large Jain temple grounds form clear enclosed shapes within the town, their compounds and gardens standing apart from the surrounding streets.
Toward the river the map opens into wetlands and channels that shift with the seasons, part of a protected wildlife sanctuary.
Excavated mounds near the town mark older settlement layers, linking the quiet modern grid to a place remembered in the Mahabharata.
