Kataiya lies in western Bihar, near the state's border with Uttar Pradesh, on some of the flattest land in India. Seen from above there are no hills to bend the streets, so the town's shape comes from roads and water: a main thoroughfare, a denser core of lanes around it and a wide surround of rectangular fields divided by paths and irrigation channels.
The plain here is the product of rivers. Over centuries the tributaries of the Ganges have laid down the soil that makes this one of the most intensively farmed landscapes on earth, and the map shows it in the neat patchwork that begins where the houses end. Ponds and tanks appear as small, sharp shapes scattered between settlements.
A Kataiya map poster turns that ordinary geometry into something considered. The streets at the centre form a tight, irregular mesh, while the farmland reads as a softer field of lines. It is an honest portrait of a working town, and in monochrome it has a calm, almost textile quality.
Around the main road the lanes crowd together into a close, irregular mesh, the part of the map with the most ink and the clearest sense of a centre.
Beyond the built-up area the land divides into small rectangular plots, their boundaries forming a fine grid that fills the outer edges of the poster.
Small water bodies punctuate the plain as crisp geometric shapes, a typical feature of village landscapes across north Bihar and the wider Gangetic plain.

Ko e ha Kataiya
For people from Kataiya and the surrounding villages, especially those who have moved to larger cities or abroad, a map of home carries weight that a photograph sometimes cannot. It is a precise, understated reminder of where a family comes from.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, so you might add a family name or a year. Choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand to match the room it will hang in.
