Kutaisi, in the western region of Imereti, is one of Georgia's oldest cities. Legend links it with Aia, the Colchian capital in the story of the Golden Fleece. The Rioni River runs through the middle, cutting a rocky channel between the two halves of the city. The streets bend along both banks and then open into newer districts on flatter ground.
Bagrati Cathedral, built in the early eleventh century, stands on a hill above the river. A short distance outside the city, the Gelati Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From 2012 to 2019 Kutaisi was also Georgia's legislative seat, when the parliament met in a modern building here before returning to Tbilisi.
A Kutaisi map poster shows how the river and the terrain shape the city: the tight curves of the Rioni, streets climbing toward the cathedral, the cluster of old lanes near the centre and the wider blocks beyond. In black and white the gorge reads as a clear dividing line, which gives the composition a natural axis and a balanced look on the wall.
The river flows through a narrow, rocky channel in the city centre. It is drawn as a winding pale line that divides Kutaisi, with several bridges crossing it.
The cathedral sits on a rise above the river. The streets around it curve and climb in a looser pattern than the flat districts below.
The White Bridge, one of the city's best-known crossings, spans the Rioni close to the historic centre and links the two halves of the old town.

Ko e ha Kutaisi
Kutaisi draws people back, from Georgians with roots in Imereti to travellers who arrived through its airport and stayed longer than planned. A street map holds the river, the hill and the old centre together in a way that photos of single landmarks cannot.
You can change the title and subtitle to a family name, a travel date or a line from a trip, and edit the coordinates line too. Choose from five styles. Then order a matte print with an optional frame, or download the full HD set for $9.
