Contour-led streets
Instead of a grid, the main roads follow the lie of the land, bending around slopes so the street network takes on a loose, organic outline on the poster.

Shijiao Map Poster & Print
Shijiao sits in the hill country of Chongqing, a municipality where flat ground is scarce and towns are shaped by the slopes around them. From above, the settlement reads as a cluster of streets pressed into the available space, with roads that curve along contours rather than cutting straight across them. It is a place defined less by a grand plan than by its terrain.
The surrounding landscape in this part of south-western China is a patchwork of ridges, small valleys and cultivated land, and the map picks this up in the way built-up blocks thin out quickly into open ground. Connecting roads trace the easiest routes between hills, so the lines leading out of town tend to loop and switch back before reaching the next settlement.
A Shijiao map poster suits anyone with ties to the town, whether through family, work or a period spent living in the wider Chongqing countryside. Rendered in plain black and white, the irregular street pattern becomes a quiet study of how a community adapts to steep ground, a view that feels personal to those who know it and abstract to those who do not.

Edge of town
Built-up blocks give way quickly to open, hilly ground, giving the composition a clear boundary between dense lines at the centre and sparse space around it.
Roads between hills
Routes leaving Shijiao wind through the Chongqing countryside, drawing long curving strokes that connect the town to neighbouring settlements across the valleys.
