About this Nōgata map poster
Nōgata lies in the Chikuhō region of Fukuoka Prefecture, an area that was once one of Japan's most important coalfields. The town sits along the Onga River, and the river's broad course, with its tributaries joining nearby, is the defining feature of the map. Streets cluster close to the water, and the flat valley floor gives the centre an even, dense texture.
Several rail lines converge on the town, tracing long curves across the plan and linking it to Kitakyushu and Fukuoka. Beyond the built-up area, low hills close in on either side of the valley, so the town has a clear boundary where the street network gives way to wooded slopes and farmland.
